Serginho Nogueira showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zaccheo Andolina in the 15th minute of the match. Deodato Magliozzi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Serginho Nogueira having to interfere. 21 minutes into the match, PIAUÍ FC's goal looked a bit too open when Zaccheo Andolina came free, but Serginho Nogueira reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 22ndth minute of the game Zaccheo Andolina who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but PIAUÍ FC's Serginho Nogueira was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Flavio Vittori made a fantastic save in the 23rd minute, when Juninho Freitas sent off a good shot on target. In the 27th minute, Zaccheo Andolina ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Serginho Nogueira was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. PIAUÍ FC's Serginho Nogueira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sigfrido Auletta in the 30th minute of play. With his leg Flavio Vittori managed to avoid a goal in the 33rdth minute, when PIAUÍ FC's Guga Trancoso fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. In the 34th minute, Víktor Santos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 36 minutes into the match, PIAUÍ FC's goal looked a bit too open when Porziano Marchitelli came free, but Serginho Nogueira reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A sloppy throw-in by Renato Sá in the 37th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Italy's Siricio Liotta. Zaccheo Andolina might have been able to make a better finish in the 38th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Serginho Nogueira. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Zaccheo Andolina ran back to his position shaking his head. Flavio Vittori made a fantastic save in the 42nd minute, when Juninho Freitas sent off a good shot on target. In the 46th minute, Guga Trancoso left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The PIAUÍ FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

Renato Sá made in the 51st minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Italy's Siricio Liotta. With his leg Serginho Nogueira managed to avoid a goal in the 53rdth minute, when Italy's Zaccheo Andolina fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. The throw-in from Renato Sá in the 56th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Italy's Siricio Liotta. Serginho Nogueira took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Zaccheo Andolina, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Juninho Freitas in the 66th minute of play forced Italy's goalkeeper Flavio Vittori to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 68th minute Guga Trancoso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Flavio Vittori saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Mete Gøl in the 80th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Flavio Vittori saved Italy from getting behind. Italy made a substitution. Sansone Vanella replaced Gianpaolo Mascari. An unexpectedly hard shot by Adriano Curto in the 86th minute of play forced PIAUÍ FC's goalkeeper Serginho Nogueira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Adriano Curto in the 89th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Serginho Nogueira prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Flavio Vittori showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mete Gøl, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. Adriano Curto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Serginho Nogueira made an important save on a dangerous shot by Adriano Curto in the 94th minute. The Italy supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Italy would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
