Vacid Nefer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arnout Reekers having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 25th minute, Gustaaf Groeneveldt managed to get in a good position for a shot. Netherlands's supporters rose to their feet, but Gustaaf Groeneveldt was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Turgut Talha breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Gustaaf Groeneveldt had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. Despite this Turgut Talha quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. After some careless play in the Club Deportivo Español defense, Gustaaf Groeneveldt kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Turgut Talha. The Club Deportivo Español fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Turgut Talha should have stopped the shot. Wim Wilmes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Turgut Talha having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Vacid Nefer stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Arnout Reekers took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Matias Chayo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lars Meesters in the 62nd minute of play forced Club Deportivo Español's goalkeeper Turgut Talha to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 72 played minutes Club Deportivo Español got a freekick which was hit by Flavio Botello. After 74 played minutes Club Deportivo Español got a freekick which was hit by Jose Sein. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 79th minute of play forced Club Deportivo Español's goalkeeper Turgut Talha to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Turgut Talha made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 81st minute of play. If Matias Chayo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute.
