Sigfrido Auletta ran over to the corner to take the kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Horaţiu Măcrinici in the 17th minute of play forced Italy's goalkeeper Flavio Vittori to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 20th minute Sigfrido Auletta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mickaël Maris saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Italy booed when Nova Iguaçu MZFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Volli Ant didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nova Iguaçu MZFC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Zaccheo Andolina was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Zaccheo Andolina made a kick off. In the 56th minute, Zena Busacca hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Horaţiu Măcrinici fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Flavio Vittori having to interfere. Flavio Vittori showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ladislao Gerazan, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. In the 64th minute Nova Iguaçu MZFC were awarded a corner. Renato Bezerra went to the cornerflag to take it. Nova Iguaçu MZFC's Renato Bezerra was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Flavio Vittori in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. The crowd rose to their feet as Italy's Sigfrido Auletta slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Mickaël Maris. That made the score 0-3 after 67 minutes of play. Flavio Vittori made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Horaţiu Măcrinici in the 71st minute of play. Italy's Flavio Vittori played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Horaţiu Măcrinici in the 71st minute of play. Porziano Marchitelli recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 73rd minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Adriano Curto in the 97th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Mickaël Maris saved Nova Iguaçu MZFC from getting behind. The Nova Iguaçu MZFC supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Italy's performance. The match ended with a win for Italy.
