Petter Skarkman could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 23rd minute of the match, but Carol Stinga made a huge save. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Paolo-César Maldini during the 26th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 26th match minute, Protegéerna was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Paolo-César Maldini to maneuver through the defense. A nice corner shot did that Adam Olaru got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Ingemar Åberg quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. In the 33rd match minute, Protegéerna was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fernando Arango to maneuver through the defense. Carol Stinga showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Guido Python, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Carol Stinga made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Petter Skarkman in the 38th minute of play. Ingemar Åberg showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Costica Vladimiri in the 41st minute of the match. 48 minutes had been played when some careless play by Protegéerna's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Adam Olaru was slow to take the kick. During this time Romania's players had a chance to rest. Adam Olaru made a great header on Romania's corner, it was just that Protegéerna's Ingemar Åberg managed to reach the ball for a save. After the first half Romania were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Christer Nyberg scored 1-1 in the 71st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Carol Stinga, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The corner led to Romania's Octavian Vaduva getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. 78 minutes into the match, Protegéerna's goalkeeper Ingemar Åberg had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Octavian Vaduva. Carol Stinga showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Christer Nyberg, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute. In the 84th minute, Anton Stinga ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ingemar Åberg was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. In the 90th minute Petter Skarkman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Carol Stinga saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 91 minutes into the match, Protegéerna's goalkeeper Ingemar Åberg had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Octavian Vaduva. The Protegéerna fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Romania were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
