Wilson Amorim made a fantastic save in the 22nd minute, when Rabelani Thebile sent off a good shot on target. Roberto Puch blasted a shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Wilson Amorim having to make a save. Wilson Amorim took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Roberto Puch, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Roberto Puch might have been able to make a better finish in the 25th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Wilson Amorim. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Roberto Puch ran back to his position shaking his head. 30 minutes into the match, Lanús's goal looked a bit too open when Caetano Moreira came free, but Manuel Neuer reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 46th minute Viriato Moura shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Manuel Neuer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Lanús made a substitution. Eloy Gaskon replaced Roberto Puch. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Viriato Moura was the one to do the kick off. Manuel Neuer made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Felipe Barreto in the 53rd minute of play. Thanks to some nice moves Felipe Barreto could shoot a difficult shot in the 56th minute, which Manuel Neuer however easily saved by the left post. After 58 minutes of play, Lanús's Eloy Gaskon made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Wilson Amorim was left in no man's land by his defense there! Lanús's Eloy Gaskon got a good chance for a goal in the 66th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ladislao Barros kicked well hit freekick during the 68th minute of the match. Portugal made a substitution. Bartolomeu Dias replaced Viriato Moura. Portugal made a substitution. Manuel Neuer was a little too slow when Felipinho Amorim got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 84th minute. The score was now 3-1. Manuel Neuer made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bartolomeu Dias in the 88th minute of play. In the 89th minute, Eloy Gaskon left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Lanús fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-1. When Bartolomeu Dias came up free with the goalie in the 95th minute, the Portugal fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bartolomeu Dias couldn't finish the play. Lanús's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
