The audience thought a goal was coming when Siro Betadur got free with Khalid Kennedy in the 16th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Sérgio Romero made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Issac Dawson in the 24th minute of play. Khalid Kennedy made an important save on a dangerous shot by Rodrigo-Nicolas De Paul in the 26th minute. Batu Cem Albay's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Khalid Kennedy firmly grabbed it by the left post. Caelan Hayes's late challenge caught a Club Atletico Los Andes's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Caelan Hayes helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Club Atletico Los Andes booed when England was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Caelan Hayes didn't get a good kick on the ball. 38 minutes into the match, England's goal looked a bit too open when Rodrigo-Nicolas De Paul came free, but Khalid Kennedy reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 39 minutes into the match, Issac Dawson had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Sérgio Romero. Club Atletico Los Andes's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Issac Dawson was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. England's Kyle Cox got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Rodrigo-Nicolas De Paul was the one to do the kick off.
