Hélio Mangueira showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Caetano Moreira, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. Hélio Mangueira took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Felipe Barreto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Timoteo Columbo to strike the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Portugal booed when Academia 1903 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Carlos Figueroa didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jeremias Ezkerra's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Wilson Amorim read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 57th minute of play. Felipe Barreto came free with the goalkeeper in the 59th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Hélio Mangueira could save by the left post. In the 60th minute, Caetano Moreira reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Hélio Mangueira. The goal made the score 2-1. Academia 1903 made a substitution. Jacobo Galoer replaced Aldo Maju. Portugal's Bartolomeu Dias was substituted for Viriato Moura. Portugal's Felipinho Amorim was substituted for Felipe Barreto. Lucien de Neutere was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. Portugal's Daniel Pimentel managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Carlos Figueroa in the 81 minute of the game. With a little luck, Academia 1903's Hélio Mangueira got control of the ball when Felipinho Amorim tried to sneak it across the goal line. The Academia 1903 fans' excitement grew in the 83rd match minute when Academia 1903's Nicanor Morenø looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal.
