A collision led to Austria getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Marc Kronecker hit a great ball. A hard shot by Pavel Dashinov from long distance, 13 minutes into the match, got Fabio Auer's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. The PFK Beroe players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Austria were winning 0-1.

In the 52nd minute, Ahmet Refik Mertoğlu got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
