An unexpectedly hard shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 15th minute of play forced Dragonf⮊rcE's goalkeeper Zacarias Sesimbra to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Gijsbert ter Kruimer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Arnout Reekers was a little too slow when Barry Houghton got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 25th minute. The score was now 1-0. Netherlands's Wim Wilmes got a good chance for a goal in the 31st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 35th minute Gijsbert ter Kruimer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zacarias Sesimbra saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Arnout Reekers didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Barry Houghton went, in the 37th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-0 was the resulting score. Zacarias Sesimbra took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gustaaf Groeneveldt, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 45 played minutes Netherlands got a freekick which was hit by Mathijn Doctor. With a little luck, Netherlands's Arnout Reekers got control of the ball when Barry Houghton tried to sneak it across the goal line. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Zacarias Sesimbra made an important save on a dangerous shot by Wim Wilmes in the 51st minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Wim Wilmes got free with Zacarias Sesimbra in the 57th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With a little luck, Dragonf⮊rcE's Zacarias Sesimbra got control of the ball when Wim Wilmes tried to sneak it across the goal line. Vítor Veiga's late challenge caught a Netherlands's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Vítor Veiga helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Netherlands booed when Dragonf⮊rcE was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vítor Veiga didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 67 minutes of play, Netherlands's David Eikelkamp made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Zacarias Sesimbra was left in no man's land by his defense there! With an all-out effort, Netherlands's Zacarias Sesimbra threw himself towards the right post 71 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. After 73 played minutes Dragonf⮊rcE got a freekick which was hit by Barry Houghton. Dragonf⮊rcE made a substitution. Ludo Tobbackers replaced Herman Dresselbjerg. 77 minutes into the match, Dragonf⮊rcE's goal looked a bit too open when Bas Tuitert came free, but Zacarias Sesimbra reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 78th minute Bas Tuitert shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zacarias Sesimbra saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 95 minutes, Ludo Tobbackers managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Dragonf⮊rcE's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ludo Tobbackers was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
