Lisandro Nuñez's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 10thth minute, Arnout Reekers skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. SAN LORENZO FC's Julien Corbeau got a good chance for a goal in the 16th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After some careless play in the Netherlands defense, Lisandro Nuñez kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Arnout Reekers. The Netherlands fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Arnout Reekers should have stopped the shot. Arnout Reekers was a little too slow when Lisandro Nuñez got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 26th minute. The score was now 2-0. Dalmacio Gaitano's late challenge caught a Netherlands's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dalmacio Gaitano helped the player get up and apologised. SAN LORENZO FC's Dario Astigar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 32nd minute of play. Dario Astigar took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wim Wilmes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 38th minute of play forced SAN LORENZO FC's goalkeeper Dario Astigar to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Netherlands's zone, Lisandro Nuñez stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Arnout Reekers came out of the goal and Lisandro Nuñez tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 45 minutes into the match, SAN LORENZO FC's goal looked a bit too open when Lars Meesters came free, but Dario Astigar reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

SAN LORENZO FC's Hernan Ixidor was substituted for Dalmacio Gaitano. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Gijsbert ter Kruimer was the one to do the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 60th minute, Lisandro Nuñez managed to get in a good position for a shot. SAN LORENZO FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Lisandro Nuñez was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Arnout Reekers breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 71st minute, Lisandro Nuñez made a precise shot to the right of Arnout Reekers. Netherlands's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-1. In the 74th minute Lisandro Nuñez shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arnout Reekers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
