The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 6 minutes into the match, CD Santos's goal looked a bit too open when Omar Salinas came free, but Emiliano Mondragon reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Isaac Castaneda came up free with the goalie in the 8th minute, the CD Santos fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Isaac Castaneda couldn't finish the play. Emiliano Mondragon took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Omar Salinas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Arnoldo Coreas's late challenge caught a CD Santos's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Arnoldo Coreas helped the player get up and apologised. In the 21st match minute, Whitwell was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Arnoldo Coreas to maneuver through the defense. In the 26th minute Omar Salinas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Emiliano Mondragon saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Emiliano Mondragon showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Selvin Giron in the 28th minute of the match. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Omar Salinas to make the kick off. Selvin Giron came free with the goalkeeper in the 53rd minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Emiliano Mondragon could save by the left post. 55 minutes into the game, Selvin Giron recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Emiliano Mondragon. Selvin Giron showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-4. Julio Lozano hit a great freekick 57 minutes into the match. Selvin Giron made a well adjusted shot against goal in the 76thth minute coming free in front of the goal, but Emiliano Mondragon would not let the ball come through at any expense and made a nice save by the left post. 78 minutes into the match, Ruben Coreas notched a goal, 1-4, to the right of Whitwell's Jhalmar Escalante. Jhalmar Escalante was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After having played for 82 minutes, Allan Benavides managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. CD Santos's supporters crossed their fingers, but Allan Benavides was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of CD Santos booed when Whitwell was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Arnoldo Coreas didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 84th minute, Daniel Huezo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. CD Santos's Emiliano Mondragon played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Omar Salinas in the 85th minute of play. CD Santos's Emiliano Mondragon proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 86th minute of the match, managed to save CD Santos from getting a goal against them. Whitwell's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
