Mauro Salguero had several of the NACIONAL DE BARRANDILLAS's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 27 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-0 score and a disappointed Rony Barragan as he didn't even see the shot coming. Southport's Hector Corpeño suffered a sore foot after 31 minutes and couldn't finish the game. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Edgar Dubon to make the kick off.
