After 16 played minutes, Clanfield United's Diego Alvarez shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Jonathan Granados came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Clanfield United reached it. Edwin Vasquez showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ovidio Rosales in the 20th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ovidio Rosales in the 26th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Edwin Vasquez prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 27 played minutes Ashburton got a freekick which was hit by Joselito Leguizamon. When Clanfield United's Rafael Guevara, in the 28th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Clanfield United. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Mauro Escalante during the 36th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 37th match minute, Clanfield United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mauro Escalante to maneuver through the defense. Pablo Mendoza sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Edwin Vasquez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Giovani Martinez, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. Ovidio Rosales received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Edwin Vasquez tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Giovani Martinez in the 55th minute of play forced Clanfield United's goalkeeper Edwin Vasquez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 56th minute of the game. One of Clanfield United:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Ashburton:s goal. After 62 played minutes Ashburton got a freekick which was hit by Efrain Botello. Odir Hernández missed a clear chance of a goal when in the 64 minute of the game fired away a shot, but unfortunally the ball went out to the Jonathan Granados right hand side. Jonathan Granados took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rafael Guevara, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Dennys Bran hit a great freekick 74 minutes into the match. 76 minutes into the match, Clanfield United's goal looked a bit too open when Giovani Martinez came free, but Edwin Vasquez reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Pablo Mendoza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 95th minute, Mauro Escalante managed to get in a good position for a shot. Clanfield United's supporters rose to their feet, but Mauro Escalante was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jonathan Granados breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
