Xove Era received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 13th minute. Rodolfo Cubillo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Walter Folle's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rodolfo Cubillo was relentless in the 15th minute of the game. Ricardo Castejana charged in rather forcefully in the 21st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ricardo Castejana the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of C.S. Emelec booed when Olguin SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ricardo Castejana didn't get a good kick on the ball. C.S. Walter Folle didn't miss a given chance and shot in short distance 3-0 via right post in the game's 37th minute. C.S. Emelec's supporters showed their exhuberating excitement! Rodolfo Cubillo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Xove Era in the 44th minute of play. Walter Folle struck a weak shot in the 46th minute. Rodolfo Cubillo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for C.S. Emelec.

The wind increased when Mina Carretero made the kick off in the second half. The audience thought a goal was coming when Carlos Garibay got free with Manuel Peart in the 52nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The referee felt a red card was in order, 56 minutes into the game, when Ricardo Castejana put in a rough tackle. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 55th minute of the game. One of Olguin SC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of C.S. Emelec:s goal. The referee gave C.S. Emelec a penalty, 57 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by George Hoyuela, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Olguin SC's Rodolfo Cubillo. 4-0. After 62 minutes, Walter Folle made it 5-0 with a short kick to the right side. Olguin SC's Rodolfo Cubillo tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Olguin SC's Rodolfo Cubillo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Xove Era in the 66th minute of play. 70 minutes into the match, Olguin SC's goal looked a bit too open when Xove Era came free, but Rodolfo Cubillo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
