The audience was convinced that Rodolfo Tostado's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Xuaco Abarca was relentless in the 22nd minute of the game. Xuaco Abarca came out of the goal and Narciso Villaseca tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 42nd minute, Rodolfo Tostado made a precise shot to the right of Xuaco Abarca. UD Azucar's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. When Carlos-Alberto Cartagena fell near the penalty area in the 47th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored UD Azucar's protests and gave Carlos-Alberto Cartagena a yellow card for diving instead. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 46th minute of the game. One of UD Azucar:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Cotogchoa SC:s goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Rodolfo Tostado made the kick off in the second half. In the 57th minute Rafael Arguiso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ramon Michelena saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. UD Azucar's Vinicio Gamarra got a good chance for a goal in the 62nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Cotogchoa SC's Narciso Villaseca got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. UD Azucar's Xuaco Abarca proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 75th minute of the match, managed to save UD Azucar from getting a goal against them. Carlos-Alberto Cartagena kicked well hit freekick during the 77th minute of the match. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Cotogchoa SC had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
