In the 25thth minute of the game Moreno Corvera who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Guayas FC's Samaniego Garros was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Alvaro Ordoña sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Estrada Castañon struck a weak shot in the 34th minute. Samaniego Garros didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for CD Arroyo. Samaniego Garros breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 41st minute of the game. One of Guayas FC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of CD Arroyo:s goal.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Urtun Thomas was the one to do the kick off. If Alvaro Ordoña had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Urtun Thomas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Samaniego Garros having to interfere. When Alfonso Vial came up free with the goalie in the 74th minute, the CD Arroyo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alfonso Vial couldn't finish the play. Martin Dominguez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Orlando Novales having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Calderón Pardeo during the 84th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. With a little luck, Guayas FC's Samaniego Garros got control of the ball when Estrada Castañon tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 88th minute, Urtun Thomas got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
