Flint Layton was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mitch Charles in the 11th minute of play forced Liverpool's goalkeeper Flint Layton to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Leroy Irwin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 16th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 18th minute Leroy Irwin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Flint Layton saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Ruben Dobbins had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Flint Layton took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mitch Charles, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 24th minute, Leroy Villalobos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Mitch Charles recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 25th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 27th minute Leroy Irwin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Flint Layton saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 31st minute, Mitch Charles got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Mitch Charles fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Flint Layton having to interfere. Franklin Childress charged in rather forcefully in the 35th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Franklin Childress the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mitch Charles in the 38th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Flint Layton prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Ruben Dobbins fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edgar LeBlanc having to interfere. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

After 61 played minutes North Chicago got a freekick which was hit by Rory Salter. Malcolm Greer hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, North Chicago's Roy Shipman got a free kick in the 67th minute. 68 minutes into the match, Ruben Dobbins had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Edgar LeBlanc. North Chicago's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ruben Dobbins was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-3. In the 80th minute, North Chicago's Mitch Charles ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Flint Layton. Flint Layton yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-4. Mitch Charles sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A hard shot 89 in the game by Leroy Irwin from a close distance when the talented Flint Layton managed to make a qualified save. Liverpool's players were relieved. Flint Layton didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for North Chicago.
