Gregorio Cline received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Grady Kelly tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ernest Trevino charged in rather forcefully in the 22nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ernest Trevino the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Ernest Trevino hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. After having played for 23 minutes, Mohammed Hillman managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Atlantic Beach FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mohammed Hillman was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Grady Kelly showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gregorio Cline in the 33rd minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 36th minute, Abraham Pendleton managed to get in a good position for a shot. Detroit Lakes's supporters rose to their feet, but Abraham Pendleton was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Wally Weaver breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a rather tough play, Atlantic Beach FC's Alfonso Aguilera got a free kick in the 39th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 39th minute, Randy Gallardo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Clay Reese took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 53rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Wally Weaver. Atlantic Beach FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Al Foley received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Grady Kelly tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ernest Trevino struck a weak shot in the 63rd minute. Detroit Lakes's Grady Kelly played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gregorio Cline in the 71st minute of play. In the 74th minute, Kirby Hastings hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Victor Winters in the 78th minute of play forced Detroit Lakes's goalkeeper Grady Kelly to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Rufus Diamond got free with Grady Kelly in the 79th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Clay Reese lost his temper 87 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. After 87 played minutes Detroit Lakes got a freekick which was hit by Clay Reese. The audience thought a goal was coming when Al Foley got free with Grady Kelly in the 93rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a rather tough play, Detroit Lakes's Tracey Zimmer got a free kick in the 96th minute. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Atlantic Beach FC eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
