Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ivo Cearense to make the kick off. 52 minutes into the match, Flamengo's Igor de Mendonça sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Zeca Barral narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Zeca Barral showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luís Fabiano Amorim in the 57th minute of the match. The Flamengo fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that João Francisco Brito should have stopped the shot. Geraizinho's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Flamengo the free kick.
