After 11 played minutes, Varzinha's Dalmo Romero shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Sydney Freitas came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Varzinha reached it. Luís Fabiano Rodrigues kicked well hit freekick during the 15th minute of the match. Luiz Fernando das Neves had great luck who in the 17thth minute grab hold of the ball when Cauã Gonçalves from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cláudio Paranaense in the 18th minute of play forced Flumengo's goalkeeper Sydney Freitas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Flumengo's Charles Arhenius got a free kick in the 19th minute. In the 21st match minute, Flumengo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Charles Arhenius to maneuver through the defense. Genílson Félix kicked well hit freekick during the 25th minute of the match. Torben Hübner received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Luiz Fernando das Neves tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Sydney Freitas didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Cláudio Paranaense went, in the 43rd minute, to the upper right corner, 0-3 was the resulting score.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Cauã Gonçalves to make the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 53rd minute, Torben Hübner managed to get in a good position for a shot. Flumengo's supporters rose to their feet, but Torben Hübner was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Luiz Fernando das Neves breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After some careless play in the Varzinha defense, Cauã Gonçalves kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Luiz Fernando das Neves. Luiz Fernando das Neves was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 73 minutes into the match, Varzinha's goal looked a bit too open when Cauã Gonçalves came free, but Luiz Fernando das Neves reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Cauã Gonçalves scored 3-3 in the 83rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Luiz Fernando das Neves, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 86th minute, Genílson Félix hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
