Torben Hübner sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Camboata EC's Carlos Eduardo Dias played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fábio Vidal in the 22nd minute of play. 24 minutes into the game, César Donatello was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Camboata EC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Flumengo the free kick. In the 24th match minute, Camboata EC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by César Donatello to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cauã Gonçalves in the 26th minute of play forced Camboata EC's goalkeeper Carlos Eduardo Dias to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Laerte Medeiros kicked well hit freekick during the 30th minute of the match. 34 minutes into the match, Flumengo's goalkeeper Sydney Freitas had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Zézinho Leão. Flumengo's Sydney Freitas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by César Paraense in the 39th minute of play. In the 40th minute, Camboata EC's César Paraense dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-1. Carlos Eduardo Dias came out of the goal in the 44th minute to try and stop a shot by Flumengo's Michel Favoretto. But to his dismay, Michel Favoretto quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. The Camboata EC players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Flumengo were winning 1-2.

Carlos Eduardo Dias was a little too slow when Jairo Rodrigues got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 52nd minute. The score was now 1-3. The audience was convinced that Cauã Gonçalves's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Carlos Eduardo Dias was relentless in the 59th minute of the game. Flumengo's Cauã Gonçalves got a good chance for a goal in the 61st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. A collision led to Flumengo getting a freekick after 64 minutes play. Jairo Rodrigues hit a great ball. In the 67th minute, Cauã Gonçalves fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Carlos Eduardo Dias, passed just outside the right post. Jairo Rodrigues fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlos Eduardo Dias having to interfere. After having played for 71 minutes, Cauã Gonçalves managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Flumengo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cauã Gonçalves was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Carlos Eduardo Dias made a fantastic save in the 84th minute, when Cauã Gonçalves sent off a good shot on target. Sydney Freitas showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from César Paraense, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 96th minute, Jairo Rodrigues managed to get in a good position for a shot. Flumengo's supporters rose to their feet, but Jairo Rodrigues was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Carlos Eduardo Dias breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When the final whistle sounded Flumengo left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Camboata EC.
