After some fancy dribbling in the 23rd minute, Magno de Lara managed to get in a good position for a shot. Laranjeira SS's supporters rose to their feet, but Magno de Lara was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nilson de Toledo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Didi de Mendonça made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jorge Cearense in the 27th minute of play. Nelson Moreira hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Acácio Cunha got free with Didi de Mendonça in the 31st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Didi de Mendonça was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

A collision led to Laranjeira SS getting a freekick after 89 minutes play. Edmílson Machado hit a great ball. In the 90th minute of the match Wilton Passos shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Didi de Mendonça showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After 92 minutes of play Marari FC's Juarês Mendes was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. If Magno de Lara had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
