Laranjeira SS were furious when Carlos Coelho was red carded, 4 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. After 4 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Laranjeira SS! Jânio da Silveira walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. With a little luck, Gilboes's Gino Lago got control of the ball when Virgílio Magalhães tried to sneak it across the goal line. 19 minutes into the game, Edgard de Queirós cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Didi de Mendonça was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Raí Borges's late challenge caught a Gilboes's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Raí Borges helped the player get up and apologised. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 22nd minute of the game. One of Laranjeira SS:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Gilboes:s goal. Jânio da Silveira shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. In the 26th minute the ball was on its way in behind Laranjeira SS's goalkeeper Didi de Mendonça, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Nelson Moreira kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. When the match had gone on for 29 minutes, Vítor Hoffmann put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of Didi de Mendonça. When Kléber Veloso fell near the penalty area in the 32nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Gilboes's protests and gave Kléber Veloso a yellow card for diving instead. Kléber Veloso kicked well hit freekick during the 32nd minute of the match. Didi de Mendonça stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Vítor Hoffmann's shot from short distance in the 35th minute. Edmílson Machado kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. Jânio da Silveira was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 37th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. When Vítor Hoffmann came up free with the goalie in the 39th minute, the Gilboes fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Vítor Hoffmann couldn't finish the play. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Edgard de Queirós stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Vítor Hoffmann fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Didi de Mendonça having to interfere. In the 52nd match minute, Laranjeira SS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Edmílson Machado to maneuver through the defense. The crowd rose to their feet as Gilboes's Edgard de Queirós slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Didi de Mendonça. That made the score 0-3 after 55 minutes of play. When Vítor Hoffmann came up free with the goalie in the 59th minute, the Gilboes fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Vítor Hoffmann couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Gilboes booed when Laranjeira SS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nelson Moreira didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tiaguinho Tinoco took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 64th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Didi de Mendonça. Laranjeira SS's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. A hard shot 65 in the game by Vítor Hoffmann from a close distance when the talented Didi de Mendonça managed to make a qualified save. Laranjeira SS's players were relieved. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edgard de Queirós in the 67th minute of play forced Laranjeira SS's goalkeeper Didi de Mendonça to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 68th minute, Laranjeira SS's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Vítor Hoffmann fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Edgard de Queirós was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 70th minute. Gilboes's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Edgard de Queirós might have been able to make a better finish in the 72nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Didi de Mendonça. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Edgard de Queirós ran back to his position shaking his head. Edgard de Queirós fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Didi de Mendonça having to interfere. If Edgard de Queirós had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
