In the 4th minute the ball was on its way in behind Cambuata's goalkeeper Juninho Arruda, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Dudu de Azevedos short, quick shot in the 15thth minute got Isaltino Vander to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Isaltino Vander made a fantastic save in the 19th minute, when Dudu de Azevedo sent off a good shot on target. If Guto Cunha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 22nd minute, Gilberto Pena hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Guto Cunha came up free with the goalie in the 26th minute, the Flamengo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Guto Cunha couldn't finish the play. When Jardel Macedo fell near the penalty area in the 28th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Cambuata's protests and gave Jardel Macedo a yellow card for diving instead. After 28 played minutes Cambuata got a freekick which was hit by Jardel Macedo. The audience thought a goal was coming when Dudu de Azevedo got free with Isaltino Vander in the 34th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Juninho Arruda stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Guto Cunha's shot from short distance in the 36th minute. 44 minutes into the match, Guto Cunha notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Cambuata's Juninho Arruda. Juninho Arruda was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

If Albano Jerold had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 54 minutes, Álvaro Torres mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Flamengo and the Cambuata players grew even worse after the yellow card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 53rd minute of the game. One of Flamengo:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Cambuata:s goal. After having played for 66 minutes, Guto Cunha managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Flamengo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Guto Cunha was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Guto Cunha sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. A collision led to Cambuata getting a freekick after 69 minutes play. Alfredinho Mazza hit a great ball. Guto Cunha fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Juninho Arruda having to interfere. With a little luck, Cambuata's Juninho Arruda got control of the ball when Guto Cunha tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Tales Velasco fell near the penalty area in the 93rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Flamengo's protests and gave Tales Velasco a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Cambuata booed when Flamengo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tales Velasco didn't get a good kick on the ball.
