A collision led to Marapicu getting a freekick after 8 minutes play. Leopoldo de Barros hit a great ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Dida Valle in the 12th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Albertinho Oliveira prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 14th minute, Tião Alvarenga left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Marapicu fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Dino Negri took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Glauco Barral, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tião Alvarenga got free with Dino Negri in the 24th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Yuri Santos kicked well hit freekick during the 25th minute of the match. Glauco Barral fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dino Negri having to interfere. Nestor Branco's late challenge caught a Umary's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nestor Branco helped the player get up and apologised. Nestor Branco kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. Marapicu's Albertinho Oliveira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Patrick Batista in the 30th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Umary's zone, Glauco Barral stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dino Negri came out of the goal and Glauco Barral tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Glauco Barral had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 41 minutes of play, Umary's Dida Valle made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Albertinho Oliveira was left in no man's land by his defense there! The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Glauco Barral stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Dida Valle had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Umary booed when Marapicu was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nestor Branco didn't get a good kick on the ball. 64 minutes into the match, Marapicu's Tião Alvarenga sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Dino Negri narrowly saved just below the crossbar.
