Geovânio Leal showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jonas Freitas, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. Manfredo Meireles hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. After 32 played minutes The Last Word got a freekick which was hit by Valdo França. Luizão Amaral fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cristóvão Varela having to interfere. 38 minutes into the match, The Last Word's goalkeeper Cristóvão Varela had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Luizão Amaral. Luizão Amaral received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Cristóvão Varela tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cristóvão Varela stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Kléberson Quirino's shot from short distance in the 41st minute. In the 42nd minute, Luizão Amaral hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 46 minutes into the game, Erik Moraes was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. The Last Word's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Tricolor da VG-MT the free kick. In the 45th minute, one of The Last Word:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for The Last Word. Cristóvão Varela had in the 47thth minute some difficulties stopping Mazinho Maranhense's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Geovânio Leal didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for The Last Word. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Kléberson Quirino in the 87th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Cristóvão Varela prevented the ball from getting in the gole. For all the effort they put into the match, the The Last Word players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Tricolor da VG-MT.
