Oséas Baiano made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zézinho de Barros in the 3rd minute of play. 4 minutes into the match, Zézinho de Barros had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Oséas Baiano. Timbiras's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Zézinho de Barros was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. The audience thought a goal was coming when José Augusto Cabral got free with Marcelinho Valladares in the 11th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Zézinho de Barros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Marcelinho Valladares made an important save on a dangerous shot by José Augusto Cabral in the 18th minute. In the 20th minute, Timbiras's Luiz Fernando Pena ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Marcelinho Valladares. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Joaquim Matorin made a kick off. 51 minutes into the game, Dedê Moura was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Mandioca's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Timbiras the free kick. The supporters of Timbiras booed when Mandioca was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dedê Moura didn't get a good kick on the ball. 60 minutes into the game, Timbiras's Luiz Fernando Pena nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Marcelinho Valladares made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. José Augusto Cabral received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Timbiras's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
