But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Wágner Paraibano couldn't finish the play. 15 minutes into the match, Coquiero EC's goal looked a bit too open when Rodolfo Vergílio came free, but Cesinha Peixoto reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 16 minutes, Wágner Paraibano managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Bacaba's supporters crossed their fingers, but Wágner Paraibano was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Cesinha Peixoto came out of the goal and Antônio Botelho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 32nd minute Gabriel Proença shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hudson Maia saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Hudson Maia took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Enéas Schmidt, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 35 minutes, Wágner Paraibano managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.
