With an all-out effort, Galheiro's Richard Bastos threw himself towards the right post 11 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Jarbas Terra, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. After a defensive mix-up in Galheiro's zone, Valdir Teles stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nildo Sanches came out of the goal and Valdir Teles tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 17th minute, Luizão Porto left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Goytacaz fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. In the 20th minute, Juninho Teixeira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Richard Bastos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kiko Fantini in the 21st minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jarbas Terra in the 23rd minute of play forced Goytacaz's goalkeeper Richard Bastos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Luizão Porto received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Nildo Sanches tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Goytacaz getting a freekick after 35 minutes play. Vânderson Trevisan hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Goytacaz's zone, Marcinho Cardoso stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Richard Bastos came out of the goal and Marcinho Cardoso tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Through an outstanding action, after 38 minutes, Richard Bastos successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. When the match had gone on for 45 minutes, Inácio Ribeiro took a quick shot and it went in 2-1 without a chance for Richard Bastos to make any attempt to save it.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Jarbas Terra to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jarbas Terra in the 52nd minute of play forced Goytacaz's goalkeeper Richard Bastos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 58 played minutes Galheiro got a freekick which was hit by Luís Paulo de Lara. Luizão Porto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Richard Bastos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jarbas Terra, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luizão Porto in the 66th minute of play forced Galheiro's goalkeeper Nildo Sanches to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Goytacaz's Gernando Baptista managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Luís Paulo de Lara in the 68 minute of the game. Luizão Porto recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Richard Bastos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Inácio Ribeiro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 72 minutes into the game, Claudinho Matorin was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Goytacaz's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Galheiro the free kick. After 72 played minutes Goytacaz got a freekick which was hit by Claudinho Matorin. After some careless play in the Goytacaz defense, Kiko Fantini kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Richard Bastos. The Goytacaz fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Richard Bastos should have stopped the shot. Richard Bastos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jarbas Terra in the 78th minute of play. After 79 played minutes Goytacaz got a freekick which was hit by Luizão Porto. After 83 played minutes Galheiro got a freekick which was hit by Kiko Fantini. For all the effort they put into the match, the Goytacaz players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Galheiro.
