In the 3rd minute, Jaboti EC's Tião Cruz ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Vivaldo Gaúcho. Vivaldo Gaúcho yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. Laércio Vergílio hit a great freekick 7 minutes into the match. Castanhao's Vivaldo Gaúcho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tião Cruz in the 9th minute of play. Dudu Trancoso struck a weak shot in the 11th minute. Faustão Monteiro didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Castanhao. In the 18th minute, Castanhao's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Tião Cruz fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Dudu Trancoso during the 19th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 19th match minute, Castanhao was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dudu Trancoso to maneuver through the defense. Paulão de Queiroz's late challenge caught a Castanhao's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Paulão de Queiroz helped the player get up and apologised. Dudu Trancoso hit a great freekick 24 minutes into the match. A collision led to Castanhao getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. Dudu Trancoso hit a great ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Jaboti EC's Tião Cruz slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Vivaldo Gaúcho. That made the score 2-0 after 31 minutes of play. After a defensive mix-up in Jaboti EC's zone, Celso Damião stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Faustão Monteiro came out of the goal and Celso Damião tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Celso Damião came up free with the goalie in the 36th minute, the Castanhao fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Celso Damião couldn't finish the play. 37 minutes into the match, Jaboti EC's goal looked a bit too open when Celso Damião came free, but Faustão Monteiro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 41 minutes, Celso Damião managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Castanhao's supporters crossed their fingers, but Celso Damião was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Tião Cruz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vivaldo Gaúcho having to interfere. Vivaldo Gaúcho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tião Cruz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The wind increased when Tião Cruz made the kick off in the second half. Manoel de Sena might have been able to make a better finish in the 52nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Vivaldo Gaúcho. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Manoel de Sena ran back to his position shaking his head. The audience was convinced that Tião Cruz's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Vivaldo Gaúcho was relentless in the 52nd minute of the game. Leandro Meireles's late challenge caught a Jaboti EC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Leandro Meireles helped the player get up and apologised. In the 53rd minute, Leandro Meireles hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 55th minute, Manoel de Sena got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 57 minutes into the game, Válter Mineiro was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Castanhao's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Jaboti EC the free kick. In the 57th minute, one of Castanhao:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Castanhao. In the 59th minute there was a penalty for Jaboti EC. Reinaldo Fontes stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Vivaldo Gaúcho. 3-0. 62 minutes into the match, Castanhao's goal looked a bit too open when Manoel de Sena came free, but Vivaldo Gaúcho reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Celso Damião in the 63rd minute of play forced Jaboti EC's goalkeeper Faustão Monteiro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 64 minutes into the game, Celso Damião was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Castanhao's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Jaboti EC the free kick. After 65 played minutes Castanhao got a freekick which was hit by Celso Damião. Vivaldo Gaúcho showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Manoel de Sena in the 67th minute of the match. When Beto Peixoto fell near the penalty area in the 70th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Jaboti EC's protests and gave Beto Peixoto a yellow card for diving instead. In the 70th minute, Beto Peixoto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
