In the 5th minute, Benedito Vianna got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Leonardo de Lara's late challenge caught a Joseense's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Leonardo de Lara helped the player get up and apologised. In the 13th minute, Leonardo de Lara hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Benedito Vianna received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 16th minute. Thanks to some nice moves André Novaes could shoot a difficult shot in the 24th minute, which Hélio de Toledo however easily saved by the left post. Romeu Paraíba kicked well hit freekick during the 26th minute of the match. Joseense's Edgar dos Santos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Baltazar Salgado in the 34th minute of play. 37 minutes into the match, Matai's goal looked a bit too open when Benedito Vianna came free, but Hélio de Toledo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When André Novaes, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 39 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Hélio de Toledo was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Emílio Diniz in the 42nd minute of play forced Joseense's goalkeeper Edgar dos Santos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. André Novaes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Benedito Vianna received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Hélio de Toledo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Emílio Diniz to strike the kick off in the second half. When Armandinho Prata fell near the penalty area in the 52nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Matai's protests and gave Armandinho Prata a yellow card for diving instead. In the 63rd minute André Novaes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hélio de Toledo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Benedito Vianna sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 79 minutes into the match, André Novaes notched a goal, 3-1, to the right of Matai's Hélio de Toledo. Hélio de Toledo was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Benedito Vianna recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 82nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If André Novaes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. André Novaes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hélio de Toledo having to interfere. André Novaes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Hélio de Toledo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 97 minutes, Erkki Asso managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Joseense's supporters crossed their fingers, but Erkki Asso was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
