Elói de Sena charged in rather forcefully in the 13th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Elói de Sena the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 13th minute, Elói de Sena hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Didi Araújo during the 18th minute. Ipomeia's Guga Sampaio played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ivo Paraense in the 22nd minute of play. A collision led to Ipomeia getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Waldir Queirós hit a great ball. Ivo Paraense's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Guga Sampaio read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 29th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Silas Tróia's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Luisão Vidal was relentless in the 32nd minute of the game. In the 37th minute Ressaguinha were awarded a corner. Vito Porto went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led Ressaguinha's Vito Porto to fire away a dangerous shot which Guga Sampaio despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. 38 minutes into the game, Ipomeia's Kaká Mesquita nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Luisão Vidal made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. If Kaká Mesquita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. After the first half Ipomeia were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The audience thought a goal was coming when Kaká Mesquita got free with Luisão Vidal in the 58th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Luisão Vidal showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Silas Tróia in the 88th minute of the match. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Ipomeia had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
