If Dário Queiroz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Clemente Barreto got free with Gilvan Massa in the 23rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. vila nova's Filipe da Mata played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dário Queiroz in the 26th minute of play. In the 27th minute the ball was on its way in behind vila nova's goalkeeper Filipe da Mata, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If José Vítor Azevedo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Filipe da Mata made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from José Vítor Azevedo in the 37th minute of play. Célio Costa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Filipe da Mata having to interfere. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Arí de Toledo was the one to do the kick off. Arí de Toledo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute. Gilvan Massa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gilvan Massa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Osvaldinho Dias in the 56th minute of play. A collision led to vila nova getting a freekick after 59 minutes play. Osvaldinho Dias hit a great ball. Geovanni Jacinto's late challenge caught a Douradoquara's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Geovanni Jacinto helped the player get up and apologised. When José Vítor Azevedo came up free with the goalie in the 63rd minute, the Douradoquara fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that José Vítor Azevedo couldn't finish the play. Dário Queiroz succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-1 in the 75th playminute. The supporters of vila nova booed when Douradoquara was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Célio Costa didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dário Queiroz's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Filipe da Mata read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 84th minute of play. José Vítor Azevedo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute.
