Túlio Santana showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Miguel Madureira in the 3rd minute of the match. After having played for 4 minutes, Betão Vieira managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Itaucu's supporters crossed their fingers, but Betão Vieira was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Túlio Santana showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Miguel Madureira, who was totally free with the ball in the 6th minute. 7 minutes into the game, Aleandro Souza was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Guary's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Itaucu the free kick. Aleandro Souza kicked well hit freekick during the 7th minute of the match. 9 minutes into the match, Guary's goal looked a bit too open when Betão Vieira came free, but Túlio Santana reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 19 minutes of play Guary's Aleandro Souza was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. Itaucu's Betão Vieira got a good chance for a goal in the 21st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Túlio Santana made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Miguel Madureira in the 23rd minute of play. After 34 minutes, Cafu Trigo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Itaucu and the Guary players grew even worse after the yellow card. Túlio Santana made a fantastic save in the 36th minute, when Betão Vieira sent off a good shot on target. The crowd rose to their feet as Itaucu's Miguel Madureira slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Túlio Santana. That made the score 1-1 after 43 minutes of play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Itaucu's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
