After a defensive mix-up in Yepe's zone, Dedê Lopes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wágner Ortiz came out of the goal and Dedê Lopes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Carlos Xavier made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ronaldão de Lara in the 6th minute of play. 8 minutes into the match, Araruama's goal looked a bit too open when Carlos Eduardo Urbano came free, but Carlos Xavier reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Victor de Moraes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 9th minute. Carlos Xavier tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 11 minutes into the match, Ronaldão de Lara notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Araruama's Carlos Xavier. Carlos Xavier was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Victor de Moraes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlos Xavier having to interfere. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Araruama's Carlos Xavier played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ronaldão de Lara in the 54th minute of play. In the 57thth minute of the game Ronaldão de Lara who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Araruama's Carlos Xavier was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Ronaldão de Lara succeeded in the game's 59th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-3. 63 minutes into the game, Ronaldão de Lara cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-4. Carlos Xavier was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 66thth minute of the game Ronaldão de Lara who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Araruama's Carlos Xavier was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. If Dedê Lopes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dedê Lopes struck a weak shot in the 73rd minute. Wágner Ortiz didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Araruama. Fabiano de Toledo charged in rather forcefully in the 79th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Carlos Xavier was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 80th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Júnior Corrêa. Through an outstanding action, after 81 minutes, Carlos Xavier successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Victor de Moraes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Carlos Xavier tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ronaldão de Lara sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Carlos Alberto Batista during the 88th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. If Victor de Moraes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Wágner Ortiz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Agostinho Velloso went, in the 94th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-4 was the resulting score. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Yepe eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
