The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edmundo Proença in the 4th minute of play forced CD Catalunya's goalkeeper Nelson Campidelis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Nelson Campidelis showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Humberto Gerber, who was totally free with the ball in the 8th minute. After a rather tough play, CD Catalunya's José Maria Eger got a free kick in the 9th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Dagoberto Ferraz during the 11th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 14th minute, Humberto Gerber got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Edmundo Proença fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nelson Campidelis having to interfere. Humberto Gerber sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nelson Campidelis didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Edmundo Proença went, in the 30th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Nelson Campidelis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Humberto Gerber in the 34th minute of the match. Nelson Campidelis showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edmundo Proença, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. After 40 played minutes, Hein -Weiss's Fábio Mazza shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Nelson Campidelis came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Hein -Weiss reached it. After 41 minutes, Zé Paulo de Godoi mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the CD Catalunya and the Hein -Weiss players grew even worse after the yellow card. Hein -Weiss's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave CD Catalunya the free kick. The supporters of CD Catalunya booed when Hein -Weiss was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rogério Seco didn't get a good kick on the ball. Edmundo Proença received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Nelson Campidelis tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Lino Tande stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Edmundo Proença came free with the goalkeeper in the 54th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Nelson Campidelis could save by the left post. Edmundo Proença who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 58thth minute tested the skills of Nelson Campidelis when he managed to save the team from getting behind. José Maria Eger kicked well hit freekick during the 60th minute of the match. After 75 played minutes Hein -Weiss got a freekick which was hit by Ricardo Marinho. Zacarias Paraíba made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dagoberto Ferraz in the 79th minute of play. Edmundo Proença received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Nelson Campidelis tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, CD Catalunya's Zé Paulo de Godoi got a free kick in the 84th minute. After a defensive mix-up in CD Catalunya's zone, Humberto Gerber stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nelson Campidelis came out of the goal and Humberto Gerber tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Dagoberto Ferraz came up free with the goalie in the 88th minute, the CD Catalunya fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dagoberto Ferraz couldn't finish the play. 89 minutes into the match, Lino Tande had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Zacarias Paraíba. Hein -Weiss's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Lino Tande was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. When the match was over Hein -Weiss could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than CD Catalunya throughout the match.
