Rogério Senna sent away a hard shot on goal in the 4th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Alvarenga's Adhemar Pinheiro in the 6th minute got a chance for a shot 6th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Araçatubense's goalie prevented a goal. The supporters of Alvarenga booed when Araçatubense was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cléber Matos didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 9th minute, Adhemar Pinheiro managed to get in a good position for a shot. Alvarenga's supporters rose to their feet, but Adhemar Pinheiro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Edmundo Fernandes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience was convinced that Luiz Fernando Britto's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ramiro Gomes was relentless in the 10th minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jorge Mello in the 14th minute of play forced Araçatubense's goalkeeper Edmundo Fernandes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Alvarenga's Gildo Borges got a free kick in the 28th minute. After 29 played minutes Tião Macedo scored with a long sweeping shot just to the left of Ramiro Gomes who was too lazy, 1-0. When Maurício Tinoco fell near the penalty area in the 33rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Araçatubense's protests and gave Maurício Tinoco a yellow card for diving instead. Hílton Maia was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 34th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Adhemar Pinheiro's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Edmundo Fernandes read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 38th minute of play. Jorge Mello sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Rogério Senna recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 42nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 45th minute, Cléber Matos had to be helped off the field due to a pulled leg muscle. Dinei da Silveira's late challenge caught a Araçatubense's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dinei da Silveira helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Araçatubense booed when Alvarenga was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dinei da Silveira didn't get a good kick on the ball. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Adhemar Pinheiro to strike the kick off in the second half. 55 minutes into the match, Pedro Augusto Toscano notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Araçatubense's Edmundo Fernandes. Edmundo Fernandes was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The audience thought a goal was coming when Adhemar Pinheiro got free with Edmundo Fernandes in the 60th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Adhemar Pinheiro recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 62nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When the match clock showed 68 minutes, the score became 1-2 when Jorge Mello sped through Araçatubense's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Edmundo Fernandes. Rogério Senna took the ball and in the 73 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ramiro Gomes. Ramiro Gomes dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. Edmundo Fernandes made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jorge Mello in the 82nd minute. Dinei da Silveira hit a great freekick 84 minutes into the match. Adhemar Pinheiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edmundo Fernandes having to interfere. Jorge Mello came free with the goalkeeper in the 96th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Edmundo Fernandes could save by the left post.
