Cruzeiro's Anderson Pinho proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 3rd minute of the match, managed to save Cruzeiro from getting a goal against them. Pedrão Fontes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 5th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Adriano Secco having to interfere. 7 minutes into the match, Cruzeiro's Pedrão Fontes sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Adriano Secco narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Abel Miranda made in the 16th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Cebrail Demirdelen immediately put the ball in play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Marian Kochanowski got free with Anderson Pinho in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 19 minutes into the match, Cruzeiro's goal looked a bit too open when Cebrail Demirdelen came free, but Anderson Pinho reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Cruzeiro booed when Imperadores was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marian Kochanowski didn't get a good kick on the ball. Amauri Silva hit a great freekick 25 minutes into the match. A throw-in in the 30th minute of the game was made by Amauri Silva with Cebrail Demirdelen as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. Anderson Pinho showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cebrail Demirdelen in the 31st minute of the match. Adriano Secco made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pedrão Fontes in the 35th minute of play. In the 43rd match minute, Cruzeiro was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cipriano Velasco to maneuver through the defense. If Pedrão Fontes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

In the 57th minute of the game Elano Abreu made a throw-in which Cebrail Demirdelen played forward. Anderson Pinho didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Marian Kochanowski went, in the 61st minute, to the upper right corner, 2-0 was the resulting score. André Luís Teles's late challenge caught a Cruzeiro's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. André Luís Teles helped the player get up and apologised. In the 69th minute Álvaro Victor shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Anderson Pinho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Anderson Pinho came out of the goal in the 71st minute to try and stop a shot by Imperadores's Cebrail Demirdelen. But to his dismay, Cebrail Demirdelen quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-0. 75 minutes into the match, Marian Kochanowski notched a goal, 4-0, to the right of Cruzeiro's Anderson Pinho. Anderson Pinho was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 82nd minute, Cebrail Demirdelen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Amauri Silva got a throw-in 84 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Marian Kochanowski. When the match had gone on for 86 minutes, Pedrão Fontes took a quick shot and it went in 4-1 without a chance for Adriano Secco to make any attempt to save it. In the 91st minute, Pedrão Fontes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 93rd minute Álvaro Victor shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Anderson Pinho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Imperadores's Adriano Secco played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pedrão Fontes in the 96th minute of play. Many of Cruzeiro's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Cruzeiro may have spent more time on the ball, but Imperadores were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
