The supporters of bahia booed when União Independente was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alfredo de Queiroz didn't get a good kick on the ball. Marcelo Toscano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rui Melo in the 13th minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Rui Melo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Marcelo Toscano was relentless in the 33rd minute of the game. 35 minutes into the match, Natanael Matos had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Marcelo Toscano. União Independente's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Natanael Matos was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Rui Melo in the 45th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Marcelo Toscano saved União Independente from getting behind. After the first half bahia were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Tião Domingues made the kick off in the second half. Tião Domingues recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 54th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 56 minutes into the match, União Independente's goalkeeper Marcelo Toscano had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Natanael Matos. União Independente's Marcelo Toscano played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rui Melo in the 58th minute of play. After having played for 72 minutes, Alexandre Passos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. União Independente's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alexandre Passos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Rui Melo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 76th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. União Independente's defense didn't have a chance, in the 80th minute, when Rui Melo scored to the left of an out of position Marcelo Toscano, making the score, 0-4. União Independente's Marcelo Toscano proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 84th minute of the match, managed to save União Independente from getting a goal against them. Marcelo Toscano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rui Melo in the 86th minute of the match. Rui Melo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. Marcelo Toscano tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 93rd match minute, União Independente was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Edvaldo Moraes to maneuver through the defense. The bahia players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
