In the 8th minute, Leblon's Patrício Toledo seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Patrício Toledo the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Leblon protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Patrício Toledo had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. After 8 played minutes Leblon got a freekick which was hit by Patrício Toledo. Erivaldo Monteiro didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Arnaldo Queirós went, in the 13th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Chumbo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ramiro Trigo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Fred Nunes came up free with the goalie in the 53rd minute, the Leblon fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Fred Nunes couldn't finish the play. With an all-out effort, Chumbo's Rogério Cearense threw himself towards the right post 58 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Sidney Schmidt, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. 60 minutes into the match, Arnaldo Queirós notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Chumbo's Erivaldo Monteiro. Erivaldo Monteiro was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After a defensive mix-up in Chumbo's zone, Arnaldo Queirós stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Erivaldo Monteiro came out of the goal and Arnaldo Queirós tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Arnaldo Queirós's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Erivaldo Monteiro read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 64th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 69th minute, Arnaldo Queirós managed to get in a good position for a shot. Leblon's supporters rose to their feet, but Arnaldo Queirós was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Erivaldo Monteiro breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Fred Nunes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Erivaldo Monteiro having to interfere. Many of Chumbo's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Chumbo may have spent more time on the ball, but Leblon were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
