When Alfredo Arruda came up free with the goalie in the 11th minute, the Cruzeiro Esporte Clube fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alfredo Arruda couldn't finish the play. Oséas Arce sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 15th minute, Bebeto Linhares managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's supporters rose to their feet, but Bebeto Linhares was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Edmundo Tasso breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Jerônimo da Cunha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Zé Pedro Alcântara charged in rather forcefully in the 19th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Zé Pedro Alcântara the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Zé Pedro Alcântara kicked well hit freekick during the 19th minute of the match. Alfredo Arruda's late challenge caught a Ouricana's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alfredo Arruda helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Alfredo Arruda got a free kick in the 28th minute. Oséas Arce sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jerônimo da Cunha could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 43rd minute of the match, but Valério Coutinho made a huge save. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Valério Coutinho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from César Garcia, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alfredo Arruda in the 68th minute of play forced Ouricana's goalkeeper Edmundo Tasso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Oséas Arce sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Oséas Arce blasted a shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Edmundo Tasso having to make a save. Edmundo Tasso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alfredo Arruda, who was totally free with the ball in the 73rd minute. Oséas Arce received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. Edmundo Tasso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alfredo Arruda in the 76th minute of play forced Ouricana's goalkeeper Edmundo Tasso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 77 minutes, Bernardinho Seco mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Cruzeiro Esporte Clube and the Ouricana players grew even worse after the yellow card. If Jerônimo da Cunha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jerônimo da Cunha's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Valério Coutinho read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 91st minute of play. 92 minutes into the match, Ouricana's João Pedro Queirós sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Valério Coutinho narrowly saved just below the crossbar. João Pedro Queirós received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute.
