A collision led to CORINTHIANS getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. Conrado Trigo hit a great ball. In the 5th minute, Pedro Luís de Barros sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and CORINTHIANS's Marquinhos Saldanha didn't even have to move. In the 7th match minute, Atletic Caldas Madri was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Reginaldo de Mendonça to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, Atletic Caldas Madri's Matías Ortiz got control of the ball when Délio Loyola tried to sneak it across the goal line. Matías Ortiz stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ronaldo Messias's shot from short distance in the 25th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Clóvis Britto in the 35th minute of play forced Atletic Caldas Madri's goalkeeper Matías Ortiz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ronaldo Messias sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With his leg Matías Ortiz managed to avoid a goal in the 39thth minute, when CORINTHIANS's Délio Loyola fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Juninho Bittencourt received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Matías Ortiz came out and tried to block the shot, but Juninho Bittencourt slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 42nd minute.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nico Eger to make the kick off. Matías Ortiz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Délio Loyola in the 54th minute of play. Ronaldo Messias struck a weak shot in the 56th minute. Matías Ortiz didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for CORINTHIANS. The audience was convinced that Délio Loyola's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Matías Ortiz was relentless in the 58th minute of the game. After some fancy dribbling in the 71st minute, Délio Loyola managed to get in a good position for a shot. In the 76thth minute of the game Délio Loyola who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Atletic Caldas Madri's Matías Ortiz was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nico Eger in the 80th minute of play forced CORINTHIANS's goalkeeper Marquinhos Saldanha to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Délio Loyola had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
