Afonso Trancoso had great luck who in the 17thth minute grab hold of the ball when Enrique Romero from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. If Ciro Sena had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Afonso Trancoso was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Simão Magalhães showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 24 minute of play. In the 30th minute, Júnior Passos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 32 played minutes Vila Palmeiras FC got a freekick which was hit by João Carlos Mattos. The audience thought a goal was coming when Enrique Romero got free with Afonso Trancoso in the 33rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 35th minute Enrique Romero shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Afonso Trancoso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. William Bittencourt charged in rather forcefully in the 36th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. With a little luck, Vila Palmeiras FC's Afonso Trancoso got control of the ball when Simão Magalhães tried to sneak it across the goal line. After having played for 40 minutes, Emerson Dantas managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. União Sulista FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Emerson Dantas was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Enrique Romero came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the União Sulista FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Enrique Romero couldn't finish the play. Enrique Romero fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Afonso Trancoso having to interfere. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Júnior Passos stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 54thth minute of the game Enrique Romero who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Vila Palmeiras FC's Afonso Trancoso was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Chiquinho Motta recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 55th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Vila Palmeiras FC's zone, Enrique Romero stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Afonso Trancoso came out of the goal and Enrique Romero tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. União Sulista FC's Emerson Dantas got a good chance for a goal in the 59th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 62nd minute, João Carlos Mattos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Enrique Romero blasted a shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Afonso Trancoso having to make a save. Afonso Trancoso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Chiquinho Motta, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. The audience was convinced that Enrique Romero's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Afonso Trancoso was relentless in the 67th minute of the game. Enrique Romero fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Afonso Trancoso having to interfere. With 75 minutes on the clock, Flavinho Cunha commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. The supporters of União Sulista FC booed when Vila Palmeiras FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Flavinho Cunha didn't get a good kick on the ball.
