In the 6th minute Yuri de Amorim shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mário Pimenta saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 6 minutes into the game, Cafu Dantas was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Pokhrane's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave LA Galaxy the free kick. A collision led to Pokhrane getting a freekick after 7 minutes play. Cafu Dantas hit a great ball. Doriva Antunes made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cafu Dantas in the 13th minute. With a little luck, LA Galaxy's Doriva Antunes got control of the ball when Chico Vides tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 18th minute, Eusébio Porto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 19th match minute, Pokhrane was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Matías Cruz to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Pokhrane's zone, Beto Lopez stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mário Pimenta came out of the goal and Beto Lopez tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Kaká de Barros's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Mário Pimenta read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 21st minute of play. Doriva Antunes made a fantastic save in the 30th minute, when Chico Vides sent off a good shot on target. Ramón Cunha charged in rather forcefully in the 33rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ramón Cunha the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 32nd minute, one of Pokhrane:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Pokhrane. Kaká de Barros fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mário Pimenta having to interfere. Yuri de Amorim struck a weak shot in the 38th minute. Mário Pimenta didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for LA Galaxy. LA Galaxy's Doriva Antunes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cafu Dantas in the 40th minute of play. Yuri de Amorim's late challenge caught a Pokhrane's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Yuri de Amorim helped the player get up and apologised. After the first half LA Galaxy were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Raphael Silveira stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Beto Lopez lost his temper 56 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. Ramón Cunha walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. Doriva Antunes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cafu Dantas in the 61st minute of play. After a rather tough play, LA Galaxy's Jorge Duarte got a free kick in the 62nd minute. Doriva Antunes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cafu Dantas, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. In the 98th minute, Raphael Silveira made a precise shot to the right of Doriva Antunes. LA Galaxy's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-2. The LA Galaxy supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing LA Galaxy would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
