Cachoeiras's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Eclerica the free kick. After 3 played minutes Cachoeiras got a freekick which was hit by Rubens Pontes. Clóvis Rosado sent away a hard shot on goal in the 6th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 8thth minute of the game Clóvis Rosado who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Eclerica's Arí das Neves was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Nildo Proença took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bernardinho de Queirós, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 19 minutes into the match, Cachoeiras's goal looked a bit too open when Bernardinho de Queirós came free, but Nildo Proença reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 24th minute Bernardinho de Queirós shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nildo Proença saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Cachoeiras's Clóvis Rosado got a good chance for a goal in the 27th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Horácio Andrade struck a weak shot in the 28th minute. Arí das Neves didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cachoeiras. In the 30th minute Horácio Andrade shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arí das Neves saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Digo de Senna fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nildo Proença having to interfere. Clóvis Rosado sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. A collision led to Eclerica getting a freekick after 38 minutes play. Hermínio Dracena hit a great ball. 41 minutes into the game, Horácio Andrade cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Arí das Neves was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After a rather tough play, Cachoeiras's Rubens Pontes got a free kick in the 44th minute. After the first half Cachoeiras were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Bernardinho de Queirós was the one to do the kick off. Horácio Andrade received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Arí das Neves tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 64 minutes into the match, Eclerica's goal looked a bit too open when Clóvis Rosado came free, but Arí das Neves reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Eclerica booed when Cachoeiras was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dinei Pitta didn't get a good kick on the ball. 68 minutes into the match, Digo de Senna had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Nildo Proença. Cachoeiras's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Digo de Senna was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. In the 88th minute, Bernardinho de Queirós got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 93 minutes into the match, Bernardinho de Queirós notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Cachoeiras's Nildo Proença. Nildo Proença was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. If Digo de Senna had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Eclerica had won after a very even match.
