Valdo Passos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 3rd minute. Américo Vianna tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Valdo Passos got free with Américo Vianna in the 5th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 8th minute, Breno Guimarães left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Diorama fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. In the 12th minute Adalberto de Alcântara shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Américo Vianna saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Adalberto de Alcântara sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Américo Vianna made an important save on a dangerous shot by Adalberto de Alcântara in the 17th minute. 19 minutes into the match, Gustavo Souza had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Dráuzio da Cunha. Buquira's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Gustavo Souza was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. If Breno Guimarães had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 29th minute Gustavo Souza shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dráuzio da Cunha saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ediberto Vianna kicked well hit freekick during the 30th minute of the match. In the 31st minute of the match Luiz Paulo Cardoso shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Américo Vianna showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. 32 minutes into the match, Diorama's goalkeeper Américo Vianna had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Valdo Passos. Diorama's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gustavo Souza was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Breno Guimarães came up free with the goalie in the 48th minute, the Diorama fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Breno Guimarães couldn't finish the play. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

The supporters of Buquira booed when Diorama was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Amauri das Neves didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 59 minutes, Murilo Rodrigues managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Buquira's supporters crossed their fingers, but Murilo Rodrigues was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Adalberto de Alcântara struck a weak shot in the 61st minute. Américo Vianna didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Buquira. Américo Vianna made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Valdo Passos in the 68th minute of play. Dráuzio da Cunha took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gustavo Souza, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Breno Guimarães in the 74th minute of play forced Buquira's goalkeeper Dráuzio da Cunha to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 76 minutes into the match, Diorama's goal looked a bit too open when Adalberto de Alcântara came free, but Américo Vianna reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 78th minute, Edson Barbosa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Luiz Paulo Cardoso, 79 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. 81 minutes into the match, Gustavo Souza had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Dráuzio da Cunha. After 87 minutes of play Diorama's Ediberto Vianna was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. When Valdo Passos came up free with the goalie in the 89th minute, the Buquira fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Valdo Passos couldn't finish the play. In the 89th match minute, Diorama was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Edson Barbosa to maneuver through the defense. Américo Vianna showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Adalberto de Alcântara in the 91st minute of the match. Américo Vianna stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Valdo Passos's shot from short distance in the 96th minute. The Diorama supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Diorama would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
