After having played for 7 minutes, Waldir de Amaral managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Cairu EC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Waldir de Amaral was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 10th minute Waldir de Amaral shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joaquim Cosme saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience was convinced that Belmiro Simão's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Horácio Urbano was relentless in the 14th minute of the game. Joaquim Cosme stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Juninho Leal's shot from short distance in the 20th minute. Juninho Leal received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Joaquim Cosme tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 47th minute, Waldir de Amaral got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The wind increased when Belmiro Simão made the kick off in the second half. 55 minutes into the match, Juninho Leal had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Joaquim Cosme. Copacabana's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Juninho Leal was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Vivaldo Travassos during the 59th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 59th minute, Vivaldo Travassos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 60 played minutes, Copacabana's Fellipe Dante shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Horácio Urbano came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Copacabana reached it. Joaquim Cosme didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Juninho Leal went, in the 64th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. During the 67th minute of the match Vivaldo Travassos completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Vivaldo Travassos a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. A collision led to Cairu EC getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Vivaldo Travassos hit a great ball. Eurico Peixoto received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 70th minute. Horácio Urbano tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Eurico Peixoto came up free with the goalie in the 72nd minute, the Copacabana fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Eurico Peixoto couldn't finish the play. 73 minutes into the match, Copacabana's Luís Guilherme Pitta sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Horácio Urbano narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After some careless play in the Cairu EC defense, Eurico Peixoto kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Horácio Urbano. The Cairu EC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Horácio Urbano should have stopped the shot. Juninho Leal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Joaquim Cosme having to interfere. 89 minutes into the match, Copacabana's goalkeeper Joaquim Cosme had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Juninho Leal. The crowd rose to their feet as Cairu EC's Juninho Leal slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Joaquim Cosme. That made the score 1-3 after 91 minutes of play. In the 94th minute, Oséas de Lara hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
