Jaime Vianna didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Vasques FC. Passaros FC's Luizão Dantas got his second yellow card of the match in the 11th minute. The referee ordered Luizão Dantas off the ground. Passaros FC's Jaime Vianna played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edson Meirelles in the 12th minute of play. Jaime Vianna stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Remo Freire's shot from short distance in the 14th minute. After 14 minutes, Júnior Sarmento mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Passaros FC and the Vasques FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Passaros FC's Júnior Sarmento got a free kick in the 14th minute. Ulysses de Carvalho's late challenge caught a Vasques FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. After a defensive mix-up in Passaros FC's zone, Emerson Quaresma stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jaime Vianna came out of the goal and Emerson Quaresma tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some careless play in the Passaros FC defense, Edson Meirelles kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jaime Vianna. The Passaros FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jaime Vianna should have stopped the shot. Jerônimo Silva sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Kaká Toledo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rodrigo Diniz having to interfere. After the first half Vasques FC were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Edson Meirelles to strike the kick off in the second half. The shot was a little too simple and Jaime Vianna could save by the left post. Ernani Monteiro went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Ernani Monteiro almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Vasques FC's Rodrigo Diniz did a great save. If Túlio Tasso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Vasques FC had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
