An unexpectedly hard shot by Anísio da Costa in the 24th minute of play forced Barranceira's goalkeeper Patrício Mangueira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Patrício Mangueira stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Samuca Tinoco's shot from short distance in the 28th minute. After having played for 32 minutes, Sydney Paes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Barranceira's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sydney Paes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Guarandi EC's Silvinho Albuquerque played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Conrado Fernandes in the 39th minute of play. 41 minutes into the match, Barranceira's goal looked a bit too open when Anísio da Costa came free, but Patrício Mangueira reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
