The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Flavinho Sena took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 6th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Alfredão Linhares. Sururu's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Ricardinho Pernambucano received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 7th minute. Alfredão Linhares tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Cocala SS booed when Sururu was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Benedito de Lara didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 12 minutes, Zé Arruda managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Cocala SS's supporters crossed their fingers, but Zé Arruda was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Zé Arruda received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. Alfredão Linhares tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Alfredão Linhares showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ricardinho Pernambucano, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. After 23 minutes, Albertino da Fonseca mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Cocala SS and the Sururu players grew even worse after the yellow card. Albertino da Fonseca hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. The audience was convinced that César do Vale's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Arthur Alvarenga was relentless in the 24th minute of the game. Arthur Alvarenga was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Waldemar da Cunha showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 38 minute of play. In the 47th minute, Waldemar da Cunha got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell César do Vale to make the kick off. Ricardinho Pernambucano struck a weak shot in the 79th minute. Alfredão Linhares didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cocala SS. Ricardinho Pernambucano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Waldemar da Cunha recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 88th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When César do Vale came up free with the goalie in the 91st minute, the Sururu fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that César do Vale couldn't finish the play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ricardinho Pernambucano got free with Alfredão Linhares in the 93rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 95th minute, Ricardinho Pernambucano got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Sururu's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
